Rev. Daisy Mae Segres Scott
Died: Aug 17, 2018
Rev. Daisy Mae Segres Scott

Rev. Daisy Scott was born on April 4, 1942 in Williamsburg County, Kingstree, South Carolina to the late Rev. Eugene Segres Sr. and Virginia McClary Segres. She was the second child and the first girl of twelve children. On Friday morning, August 17, 2018, Daisy peacefully entered into eternal rest at McLeod Regional Medical Center Florence, SC.

Daisy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the tender age of 14. She was a faithful Christian woman who devoted herself to sharing Christ’s love with others. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Apostolic Faith Church in the Holy Woods and in Florence, SC where she was active in many areas of church life.

She attended Williamsburg County public schools throughout her life. She graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1960. After graduation she worked at Dr. Cooper’s dentist office as a dental assistant and secretary.

On December 26, 1962 she was joined in holy matrimony to Joshua Scott Sr. She was a loving mother to one son, three daughters, and two nephews. She was also a dedicated foster mother who provided a loving home to several community children.

In 1964 Warsaw Sewing manufacturer decided to hire African American women. Daisy took the test for the job and made the second highest score among all of the test takers. She was one of the first African American women to work at Warsaw Sewing. She was also one of the fastest sewers.

When she became a working mother she began to feel pressured to find a suitable place to leave her children while she worked. She thought about other working mothers who also needed a place to leave their children during the day while they work. While thinking the idea came to her to open a daycare center. She contacted the Department of Social Services and the Health Department. They were instrumental in helping her open the doors to Kindale Park Day Care Center on February 1, 1971. During the 43 years the daycare center was opened many children were loved and taught by Daisy and her staff. She was proud of her Kindale Park Day Care alumni who became doctors and nurses, authors and teachers, athletes and business owners, attorneys and bankers … and the many others who made astonishing achievements.

Later in life she attended cosmetology school and earned a master barber license to help in her daughter’s barber shop.

Daisy was kind-hearted and devoted to her family. She was most proud of her children and her grandchildren. She often cooked them her special macaroni and cheese dish. Her cheerful and friendly spirit made her loved by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her sister Sally Segres Wilson, her brother Rev. Nathaniel Segres Sr., and her twin grandsons King and Rufus.

Those who will cherish her memories forever are her loving and devoted husband Deacon Joshua Scott Sr.; her children who were the apple of her eye Deaconess Verdenice “Deannie” Scott of Kingstree, SC, Joshua Scott Jr. of Kingstree, SC, Veronica (Dwight) Scott Fulton of Jacksonville, FL, Valerie Scott Dickey of Atlanta, GA, Leroy (Tangie) Scott Sr. of Sacramento, CA, Irvin (Latoya) Erskine Scott of Atlanta, GA; her dearly beloved grandchildren Josh’Etta Maria Scott, Faith Leann Chandler, Scott Eugene Fulton, Philip Joshua Fulton, Maci Elise Fulton, Jarel Samuel Dickey, Daisy JaRuth Dickey; her brothers and sisters Rev. I’m so sorry for your loss of your mother. Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences a family will face. May the many hugs, caring thoughts and prayers be a source of comfort(2 Corinthians 1:3-4) from our God of tender mercies ( 2 Corinthians 1:3-4) and may his promise of resurrection (John 5:28-29) be a comfort for the days that lie ahead.

My heart goes out to you and the family. What you and the family is going through is painful. Jesus also feels the pain. John 11:33-35. Jesus will do more than just feel sorry for you and the family he will bring the so loved one back to life here on earth to live forever by means of the Kingdom in the Lord's Prayer. Acts 24:15; John 11:43,44; Psalm 37:11,29; Matthew 6:9,10. Jesus as King of God's Kingdom will get rid wars, fears, sickness, sorrow, death, tears, outcry and pain. Micah 4:3,4; Revelation 21:4,5. What Jesus did on earth was a small part of what he will do in God's Kingdom. Matthew 15:30,31; 6:9,10. I love to give comfort here's my email so you and the family can get more comfort debbieshelpfulones@gmail.com
