Rev. William Cecil Boyd, Sr.

Rev. William Cecil Boyd, Sr., affectionately known as “Top” was born on March 15, 1931 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina to the late Mennin and Nancy Giles Boyd. He is preceded in death by all his sibling: Beulah Boyd Addison, Mennin Boyd, Jr., Catherine Boyd Anderson, Elijah Boyd, Raymond Boyd, Eva Henry, Raleigh, Harry and Alice Boyd Brockington. On Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Medical University in Charleston, South Carolina he was called home to be with the Lord.
William was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg and Georgetown counties. At an early he joined the First Church of Christ in Salters, South Carolina. He served on the finance board and worship leader faithfully. He began preaching and teaching the word at an early age. On January 1, 1987, he was ordained as pastor by the Palm Bay, Florida First Church of Christ Association. His favorite words to the congregation was “99 ½ just won’t do gotta make 100 to enter kingdom of heaven.” After 40 years of teaching and preaching he retired and act as liaison for current pastor in the First Church of Christ of Hwy 41.
William was united in Holy Matrimony on May 12, 1956 to Geneva Bryant Boyd of St. Stephen, SC. They have been married for 62 years. To this union, five sons and four daughters were born.
William was a hard worker and supported his family being in Overton Manufacturing in Andrews, South Carolina. Later, in 1964 he began working at Deyten Shipyard and retired after 30 years of service. In 2002, his strong work ethic and need to be active rekindled him to seek employment with the Williamsburg County Recycling Services. He worked there dutifully until November 2018.
William was a strong, stern, outspoken and humorous gentlemen who genuinely loved his family, church and community.
William leaves to cherish his memories are a loving wife, Geneva Bryant Boyd of Andrews, South Carolina; his five sons: William Boyd, Jr., Reverend Phillip (Francine) Boyd, Thomas Levi Boyd, Albert James (Sondra) Boyd of Andrews, South Carolina; and Mennin (Sarah) Boyd of Kingstree, South Carolina; his four daughters: Cynthia Delores Boyd of Columbia, Maryland, Cheri Lenette (Donald Jerome) Kingston of Columbia, South Carolina, Barbara Odessia (Jacquence Carl) Porter of Hopkins, South Carolina; and Stephanie Henrietta ( Rodney Dion) Lemon of Blythewood, South Carolina; one sister-in-law Vernie Mae Giles Boyd of Greensboro, North Carolina; four brother-in-law Louis Brockington of Georgetown, SC, Thomas(Sandra)Bryant of Charleston, South Carolina, Isaiah(Janet) Bryant of Jersey City, New Jersey, Leroy (Lisa)Bryant of Atlanta, Georgia; one aunt, Lillie Mae Washington of Pineville, South Carolina; 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
