Alex Bernard Pressley peacefully transitioned in Myrtle Beach, SC, on September 11, 2025.
Born December 24, 1945, in Harlem, NY, he was the son of George Washington Pressley, Sr. and Pansy Cooper Pressley. He was raised to focused on faith, family, and education. At Metropolitan United Methodist Church, he served as a Trustee. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan and Philander Smith College. Alex enjoyed tennis and fishing. He served in the U.S. Navy (USS-USRN), later transferring to the Naval Reserves in Bainbridge, MD, in 1968. A pioneer in the construction industry, Alex was among the early minority contractors responsible for community development. As an entrepreneur, he worked to build affordable housing in Harlem, NY until retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Harper-Pressley; son, Terry Alexander Pressley (Natiki); granddaughters, Jessica Denise Mason and Nailah T. Pressley; and great-grandchildren, Camryn Amaiyah Plaskett, Zhuri Danai Price, and Deion Eldred Price. Also surviving siblings, George Washington Pressley, Jr., Raymond Giles Pressley (Deborah), and Pansy Pressley-Steele; nieces and nephews, Pamela Edith Joseph, Sharon Pressley-Collier, Brian Keith Pressley (Marella), Tomasina Sams Riddick, Todd Oliver Pressley (Marisha), Tyrik Schamal Pressley, Deborah Pressley Huntington (Mark), Ramona Pressley-McGibbon (Lance), Mercedes Howell; and many great-nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death: sisters, Francine Pressley-Sams (Thomas), Lois Carolyn Sims; brother Calvin Oliver Pressley (Iona); and sister-in-law Agnes Fulton Pressley.
The family of Mr. Alex Bernard Pressley wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the many expressions of love, prayers, and support extended to us during our time of bereavement. Your acts of kindness have been a source of comfort, and we will forever hold them in grateful remembrance. A special thanks to Mt. Seal United Methodist Church - your support will always be remembered.
