On Friday, August 26, 2016, an angel of the Lord was dispatched to the Kingstree Nursing Facility and escorted the lateAlice Alberta Shawto her Heavenly home.

Alice Alberta Shaw, orBertas she was affectionately known to the family, was born on August 4, 1942, in Kingstree, South Carolina to the late Elijah Shaw, Sr. andHessieGriffenShaw, the second of fourteen children. Five sisters and seven brothers preceded her in death. She grew up in Kingstree and nearby Lake City and was educated in both the Williamsburg County and Florence County school systems.Upon adulthood, Bert moved to Baltimore, Maryland, for employment opportunities and held various positions for many different employers. However, she never forgot where she came from, always returning home to visit her mother and family and to also lend a helping hand, whenever and wherever it may have been needed.

Bertknew and loved the Lord at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was brought up in the St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she served on the choir. In later years, Bert became an active member at the North Kingstree Baptist Church, where she attended services regularly until her health declined and was incapacitated.

Bertloved to cook and she loved to sing. She could always be found singing her favorite hymn, "May the Work I've Done, Speak for Me." She also loved children and spent lots of time caring for the youth in the family, particularly taking a hand in assisting to raise her niece, Cheryl.
