Cephus Clyde
Lockett
March 15, 1939 – September 6, 2024
Life Reflections
On March 15, 1939, in Shiloh, Alabama, Cephas Clyde Lockett was born to the late Rev. Pearl and Mrs. Laura Craig Lockett. He was reared in the Shiloh Baptist Church until his father was introduced to Apostolic Faith and moved the family to Century, Florida where they continued serving the Lord in the Apostolic Faith Church. After the loss of his mother at a very young age, Cephas' father remarried to the late Katie Bush Lockett, who helped care for and raise young Cephas. He attended the public schools of Century, Florida and began working during his early years. He gave his life to Christ in the Apostolic Faith Church and was called into the ministry under his father and the late Reverend Cato Bush.
On June 25, 1960, the Rev. Cephas Lockett was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Annie Lee Scott. This union was blessed with six children. He and Annie were blessed with 42 happy years of marriage before the Lord called his bride home on May 10, 2003. Rev. Cephas was a loving and hard-working husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also a brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be truly missed.
Over the course of his life, he resided in Shiloh, AL, Century FL, Philadelphia, PA, Seattle, WA and in 1988, he moved to Kingstree, SC to support his wife in caring for her parents. His occupations included working on a farm during his early years. He was a natural with building and repairs, beginning his career in trucking and mechanics as a teenager, first driving locally and then long distances. His career in mechanics included maintenance and repairs of his own vehicles and others as well as working on diesel tractor-trailer trucks for the Pepsi-Cola company and Glacier Beverage. With his wife's support, his entrepreneurial spirit and God-given talent led him to establish this own business, C & L Produce. Through this business, he worked hard and provided for his family for many years, often accompanied on the road by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
His career in trucking allowed him the opportunity to do what he loved; travel and share the Gospel. He ministered in churches that he visited across the country as well as ministered and helped individuals he encountered on the road and at various truck stops. He enjoyed sharing overflow produce and products from his deliveries with family, friends, and neighbors when he came to town. In January of 2020, he decided to retire at the age of 80.
On the early morning of Friday, September 6, 2024, his Heavenly Father called him home. He leaves to cherish his memories; four daughters and two sons, Ms. Eleanor Lockett of Seattle, WA, Mr. Gerald Lockett of Seattle, WA, Mrs. Karen (Octavious) Scott of Columbia, SC, Ms. Casandra Lockett of Columbia, SC, Dr. Tracey (Kerry) Singleton of Columbia, SC, Mr. Roger Lockett of Atlanta, GA, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
