Francis James
Johnson
January 7, 1944 – March 10, 2024
Life Reflections
Francis James Johnson, affectionately known to many as "Brother," was born January 7, 1944, in Williamsburg County. He was the second of the four children born to the late Willie Lee Johnson and Sula Johnson. In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his brothers, Sammie Joe Johnson and Duke McKnight and his son, Corey James Johnson. He departed this life on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Carlyle Senior Care Nursing Home of Kingstree after an extended illness.
Francis attended Tomlinson High School where he developed a passion for athletics. He was always a very enthusiastic and FIRM player in all the sports he played. While his roots were in Williamsburg County, he spent some of his adult years in New York. Upon returning to Kingstree, because of his love of sports he served as a coach and referee for many years for Kingstree Recreational League. Even when he retired his love for the game continued as a committed DALLAS COWBOYS FAN. His enthusiasm for the team was one of the ways he maintained the bond with friends he met while in New York.
Francis was a member of The Apostolic Faith Church. His favorite pastimes were painting, fishing, listening to his favorite gospel music and cooking for everyone. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the community.
Francis leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Edward Cooper of Bronx, NY and Rhashay (Maggie) Whitfield of Harlem, NY; his only daughter, Frangetter Wallace (David) McCrea of the home; siblings: William Johnson of Brooklyn, NY, Alice Johnson of Kingstree, SC, and Delnorta Rogers of Miami, FL,; special niece, Willette Johnson; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
