Mrs. Gertie Loretta Dukes Segres, affectionally called "Sista" by her siblings, was born on May 20. 1945, to the late Mr. Dan Dukes and Mrs. Ethel McClary Dukes. She departed this life on September 23 2025. at her daughter Angel's home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, the Reverend Eugene Sogres, Jr.
She was educated in the Kingstree Public School System. On September 7. 1963. she married the late Eugene "Bubba" Segres, Jr.. of Kingstree, SC. and to this union was born five children: Ethel Marie, who preceded her in death. Abraham, Danzell. Angela, Ruth Naomi, and Cynthia, a stepdaughter.
She was raised in St. Paul United Methodist Church with a strong spiritual foundation. In 1963 she joined her husband's church, Mt. Zion, Apostolic Faith Church where she professed Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior, Her strong faith in God and love for people allowed her to unwaveringly support her husband's ministry throughout the United States and internationally including Canada, Haiti, and the Caribbean Island.
In the late 1990s, while living in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, she and her husband became foster parents, They continued this ministry until 2007. Having been foster parents to over 100 children, many stayed in touch and several accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior because of her love and light of Christ shown through the life of Sis. Gertie and Rev: Segres.
In 1980, she was the First Lady of the Apostolic Faith Chu Rocky Mount. NC.
In 1997, she was the First Lady of the Apostolic Faith Church (Reed Road), Houston, TX.
In 2008, she was the First Lady of the Apostolic Faith Church ( 265 Lafayette Ave). Brooklyn. NY.
In 2009. she was the First Lady of the Southern and Eastern District of the Apostolic Faith Churches covering churches from New York to Florida.
In 2012, she was the First Lady of Mount Zion Apostolic Faith Church (Holywoods Community). Kingstree, SC.
In 2019. Sis. Gertie and Rev. Segres from official ministry and relocated to Rocky Mount. NC.

VA; Pastor Danielle (Elder Sylvia) Segres of Wilson, NC: two daughters, Pastor Angela (Deacon Lindsey) Segres-King of Rocky Mount. NC.and Rev. Dr. Ruth Naomi Segres, Chaplain, Colonel. United States Air Force, Colorado Springs, CO; one stepdaughter, Minster Cynthia (Randy) Gregg of Florence, SC; seven grandchildren Briana, Brandon, Kymberli, Ashley, Daniel, Jonathan, Joshua; two step grandchildren, Selena. Kenrick I(Corenthia), and two step great grandchildren; Jaden and Journee. Her siblings three brothers: Charles Dukes of Rhode Island: Mr. Richard Dukes. and Mr. Daniel Dukes, both of Kingstree, SC; her only sister, Mrs. Emma Jane Dukes Barr, of Kingstree, SC. In-law's: Mr. Theophilus (Loretta) Segres and Mrs. Lillie Segres, both of Kingstree. SC: Rev Eli (Karolyn) Segres of Aiken, SC: Min. Berthena (McKeever) Conyers of Greeleyville, SC, Mr. Richard (Gloria) Segres of Fredericksburg, VA: Min. Barbra (Min. Alvin) Glen of Orangeburg, SC: Mrs. Gail (Leonard) Pressley of Kingstree, SC: Rev: Dennis (Vickie) Segres of Birmingham, AL; Mrs. Jannette (Kenneth) McCrae of Columbia, SC:a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held for Ms. Segres on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pressley's Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Service will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Apostolic Faith Church located at 44 Holywoods Road, Kingstree, South Carolina beginning at 12:00 pm. The Interment will immediately follow the service at Green Lawn Cemetery in Kingstree, South Carolina. Final arrangements are being managed by Hunter-Odom Funeral Services of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Pressley Funeral Home in Kingstree, South Carolina.
