Obituary

Life Reflections

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith II Timothy 4:6-7

Mr. Joe Singletary was born on December 1, 1941 in Lake City, South Carolina, to the late John and Janie Singletary. He departed this earthly life on Friday morning, March 23, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Sumter, South Carolina, after an extended illness.
Joe enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1963. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Joe was united in holy matrimony to Betty Green on January 22, 1964. To this union three children were born; two preceded him in death, Jerome and Aaron.

After relocating to Kingstree from New York, Joe received his GED from Williamsburg Technical College in Kingstree, SC. He was employed with Hemingway Apartments from 1978 until he retired in 2005. He enjoyed cooking, music, and fixing things around the house. Joe joined St. Michael United Methodist Church in 1977.
There, he worked in various positions, such as Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and Member of the CPR Committee. He also worked as President of the EB Male Course, President of the Combined Choir, and President of the United Methodist Men, until his health declined.
In addition to his two sons, joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Janie Singletary, a brother William Singletary; two sisters Bertha McCrea and Mable Singletary. Joe leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Betty Singletary of the home; one son , Jo'Ray (Tammy) Singletary of Dotson, North Carolina; one granddaughter he raised as his own, Megan Singletary, one additional granddaughter, Shanequa (John) Thompson of Kingstree, SC; two grandsons, Aaron Singletary of Kingstree, SC and Cadyn Singletary of Dotson, NC; one great-grandson, Zakaria Tisdale of Kingstree, SC; two sisters, Dorothy Singletary and Jane Bostic both of Bronx, New York; Two daughters-in-law Tabatha Singletary of Aiken, SC and Diane Singletary of Kingstree, SC; eightseven sisters-in-law: Eartha Singletary of Chesapeake, Virginia, Celia Mae Wallace and Millie Greene both of Kingstree, SC, Shirley (Billy)Eastling of Florence, SC; Deloris Green Nesmith of Bridgton, New Jersey, Mary Wilson of Teaneck, New Jersey and Juanita (Frankie) Pompey of Cades, SC , three brothers-in-law; Jeff McCrea of Tampa, FL., James Green and Eddie (Viola) Green of Kingstree, SC. Also cherish his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends along with being a father to many foster boys.
