Life Reflections
Mr. Louis Brockington has finished his race and departed his earthly life on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Georgetown, SC. Louis was born January 12, 1931 to the late Alex Brockington, Sr and Ludell (White) Brockington in Georgetown County SC.
He was preceded in death by his Loving wife Alice, 3 brothers, Alex Jr, Walter and Flint Brockington; 6 sisters Rena Blackwood, Edith Pipkins, Dorothy McCleary, Bessie Nesmith, and Mary and Ruby Brockington; and 1 grandson Clifton Gillyard.
On September 28, 1957, he was united in holy wedlock to Alice (Boyd) Brockington. This union was blessed with 4 children. Louis served in the US Army for over 20 years. During his service in the Army, He received the Bronze Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces, The Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the Army Commendation Medal for acts of meritorious service in support of the objectives of the United States Army Armor Center. He was deployed in Vietnam for 1 tour, Korea for 2 tours and Germany for 2 tours. In addition to his stateside assignments in Texas, Georgia, Kentucky and Washington and in South Carolina, retiring in May 1973. After retiring from the US Army, he was employed with Jamestown Spinning Co and retired after 20 years. He was a member of Weldon Hill Missionary Baptist Church for many years where he served faithfully on the Trustee Board and as a Deacon. In his community, he served on many different Masonic Affiliations: Mt Aarat #416, Prince Hall Grand Chapter Holy Lodge Mason Appointed Officer, Choppee Chapter #52 High Priest, Mt Aarat Chapter #288 OES Patron, George Harris Consistory 256 Commanding Chief, District Chaplain #6 OES Grand Lodge Special Deploy 11 Masonic District, and the Shriner Temple Port & Tate.
Mr. Louis Brockington leaves behind three daughters, Sherry (Clayton) Brockington Gillyard of Fayetteville NC, Louise (Timothy) Brockington Leland of Pendleton SC and Judy Brockington of the home. One son, Louis Brockington, Jr of Pendleton, SC. Ten grandchildren Natasha C Gillyard of Durham, NC, T. Reshawn Leland, Timothy J Leland, Jr Alexis C Leland, Nycole E. Leland and Allison B Leland of Pendleton SC, Joshua F Neal, Nadia S. Neal and Katherine Z. Neal of the home. and 7 great grandchildren, Ashton Olivia Leland of Greenville, SC, A'Mya LeAnna Alice Grayden, A'Journey LeAnn Olivia Grayden, Avah Nicole Leland, Elijah Akeem Timothy Leland, Carter Louis Blackburn, and Mason Nicohols Foster of Pendleton SC, 2 sister in laws Vernie Mae Boyd of Columbia SC and Geneva Boyd of Andrews SC and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. And his good friends and riding buddies Mr. Clarence Kinloch and Deacon James Hayward.
