Life Reflections

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid
up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. " (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

On Thursday morning, August 8, 2024, our beloved father, Rev. Melvin Lee Segars Sr. peacefully
slipped into eternal rest at Lake Moultrie Health and Rehab in St. Stephen, SC.
Rev. Melvin, affectionally called Leck, Check and Big Leck, was born on May 10, 1940, in
Williamsburg County to the late Rev. Eugene Segers Sr. and the late Mrs. Virginia "Ella" McClary
Segers. He was the oldest of 13 siblings. He was preceded in death by two children, Audrey Virginia
Segars and Baby Girl Segars; two brothers, Pastor Nathaniel Segars Sr. & Bishop Eugene Segars Jr.;
and two sisters, Sally Segars Wilson & Pastor Daisy Mea Segars Scott.
He was a lifetime resident of the Holywoods Community with his family. Reverend Melvin was a
member of Mt. Zion Apostolic Faith Church in Kingstree, SC where he served in many capacities
including Youth Leader, Head Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Assistant Pastor. His
testimony was that he was Saved, Sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost, experiences he so dearly
treasured. He was known as the hell, fire, and brimstone preacher. In 1960, he graduated from
Tomlinson High School. He received a full scholarship for athletics and mathematics to South
Carolina State College (now SC State University). He was the owner and operator of Segars Dry Wall.
At the age of 20, he was joined in holy matrimony to the late Min. Lula Lee Fulton Segars. To this
union, 7 children were born (two proceeded him in death). He reared five additional children and
fostered many others.
After marriage, their dual ministry took them traveling abroad to AFC churches in the Mid-West,
South-West, along the East Coast and the Virgin Islands.
His precious and loving memories will always be cherished by: four sons and one daughter, Pastor
Heyward Levern Segars Sr. of Kingstree, SC; Min. Eugenia Segars McCray of Kingstree, SC; Melvin
