Reverend William McClary was born to the late Reverend Melvin Lee McClary and Emma Flagler-McClary on September 30, 1931. He was educated in the Williamsburg County School System. After formal education, he moved to Washington, DC where he was employed as a plasterer. He returned to Kingstree, SC where he acquired employment at Baxter's Laboratories. In 1951, he was joined in holy matrimony to the late Ruth Naomi White of Rocky Mt., NC. To this union four children were born: the late William R. McClary, the late Annie M. Glover, Lt. Col (ret) Ricky J. McClary, and Dr. Phyllis Cunningham. The late Louis McClary, a nephew, was raised in the home as one of his own. Rev. William McClary was ordained into ministry in the Apostolic Faith Church in 1965. He served as youth leader, assistant pastor, then as pastor for 28 years culminating in 62 years plus in dedicated service to God and the community. This gentle, yet firm servant delivered the Word of God at numerous revivals, conferences and seminars throughout the US. Rev. McClary also took time for leisure and entertainment. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and viewing westerns. He loved to visit neighboring stores, community venues, and places of business where he enjoyed laughing and intermingling with people from all walks of life. In 1989 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He battled the disease intermittently for 25 years and eventually succumbed on June 26, 2014 at when he was taken from his earthly residence to his eternal home. He leaves in his wake: one son, Lt. Col (ret) Ricky J. McClary (Brenda) of Woodbridge, VA; one daughter, Dr. Phyllis M. Cunningham of Charlotte, NC; two daughter-in-laws, Linda A. McClary of Albuquerque, NM and Deloris McClary of Miami, FL; one sister, Lirlease Gamble of Kingstree, SC; four sister-in-laws, Christine McClary, Johnnie McClary, and Isabelle Wilson all of Kingstree, SC, and Joanna Giles of Oak City, NC; three brother-in-laws, Obadiah White (Sandra) of Suitland, MD, Elisha White of Fort Washington, MD, and Samuel White (Ann) of Alexandria, VA; eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
